THE BUSINESS CASE
for action, and joining the Green Loop Climate Community.
Climate action can seem daunting, expensive and time consuming - particularly for small businesses recovering from the pandemic restrictions. The Green Loop Climate Plan provides the supportive infrastructure, joint funding opportunities and access to resources and contacts that mean climate action makes business sense.
Reputation
Almost two-thirds of consumers across international markets feel a responsibility to consume and purchase environmentally friendly products. Climate change continues to explode in prominence and urgency, along with public awareness and concern. Publicizing your efforts via the Green Loop Climate Plan press strategy will connect with your current customers and expose you to a new climate-conscious audience. The truth is, businesses who don’t take action risk being left behind.
Quick Wins
There are many low cost, quick changes you can make to start your sustainability journey. Switching to LED lightbulbs, running some employee workshops on energy use and improving your building insulation by blocking droughts are easy initiatives that will create momentum for later projects.
Payback
The payback period for investments such as solar panels can be over a long stretch of time. But there is financial support in the form of loans and grants to explore. We’d also like to work with businesses to start a conversation with landlords, who will also realise the benefits from the installation of solar panels and so may be willing to make a contribution.
Renewable Energy
Installations like heat pumps or solar panels can be an expensive initial investment with a long pay-back period, but they have a great impact on your carbon footprint. We’d love to explore with you ways to make these ambitious changes - such as an arrangement for a contribution from your landlord, or exploring the grants and loans available.
Building Efficiency
According to the Carbon Trust, low and even zero-cost actions can reduce energy costs by at least 10%, and produce quick returns. For many businesses a 20% cut in energy costs is equivalent to a 5% increase in sales.
Joint Funding Bids
As a member of the Green Loop Climate Community you can be included on joint funding applications led by us or our partners, and any associated project management support. Bringing together groups of like-minded businesses will make for a stronger case.
Economies of Scale
As a group of businesses we can look for opportunities to scale up on services or products required to increase sustainability, and benefit from bulk purchasing.
Business Resilience
London is facing more extreme weather events such as flooding, which pose obvious threats to property as well as knock-on impacts such as electricity shortages. Switching to renewable sources of energy is one way to safeguard against potential future outages. And local initiatives such as raingardens will help build resilience in the case of extreme weather.
Lobbying
The priority of Camden Town Unlimited & Euston Town business improvement districts remains to represent business interests and improve the trading environment to allow enterprise to thrive. We believe this works hand in hand with climate action - in fact, they are mutually dependent. Therefore our climate lobbying efforts will intend to influence policy to enable business to take climate action that also benefits business performance.
